Vidic - Confidence is high in United camp

Manchester United are confident they can win the Premier League despite having to make up ground on Chelsea before the end of the season, according to Nemanja Vidic.

The Serbian defender made his first appearance of 2010 for United in their midweek 3-0 victory over West Ham, a result which put them just one point behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, although they have played a game more than their West London rivals.

Vidic's return should boost United during the run-in but he will not line up alongside regular central defensive partner Rio Ferdinand in this weekend's Carling Cup final as the new England captain has suffered a resurgence of a long-standing back problem.

The Serbian defender told MUTV he was "very happy" to have returned from a nerve problem and he is looking forward to help United push on in the coming months as they battle for the Premier League title. The betting odds make Chelsea favourites, but there is still a long way to go.

"We believe we can win the title," said Vidic, adding Chelsea still have to travel to Old Trafford before the end of the season in a game which could decide who lifts the trophy come May.

He said: "We can do it, especially with some big players back from injury. I think we will be good for the rest of the season."

However, United will have to play the rest of the Premier League season without Anderson as the Brazilian midfielder ruptured his cruciate ligament in the West Ham victory and has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand's injury could have an impact on England's prospects over the summer.

The 2010 World Cup football betting makes them third favourites for the tournament, but they could be missing a number of key players.
