Wayne Rooney is the man who can spur Manchester United on to win silverware this season, according to one of his team-mates.

Patrice Evra has seen England forward Rooney score 25 goals this season, with the last two coming in United's Champions League victory over Milan on Tuesday night.

Rooney's goals have helped United battle Chelsea in the Premier League title race, with the Old Trafford outfit currently only one point behind their rivals.

United face Everton and West Ham in their next two matches before having their first chance to win silverware when they meet Aston Villa in the Carling Cup final on February 28th.

The Carling Cup betting suggests United will lift the trophy.

Players and fans will be hoping Rooney can continue to fire the goals and Evra believes his team-mate is a "world class" footballer who can win games for United.

He told Sky Sports News: "Wayne is Wayne Rooney now, he is more mature now, he has learnt a lot and now he wants to score, he has the hunger to score, not just to press the ball but to score and now he is a goalscorer."

United's bid for glory in the Premier League was recently hit when influential midfielder Ryan Giggs was ruled out of action for a month.

The winger fractured his right arm in the side's victory over Aston Villa and will miss three Premier League matches and also the Carling Cup final.

However, the Premier League betting odds suggest the title race should still go down to the wire.
