Arsenal going for Tranquillo Barnetta
Category: English Premier League

As the football season moves on, just like every year the stories, news and gossips regarding various things like who is coming, who is leaving, who is joining which team, which club is buying off whom and even who is dating whom among many such questions and issues seem to be floating around.

In one of the latest turn of events this season which is most certainly also presently the most talked about in the circuit, English football club Arsenal is all set to rope in Swiss midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta who is currently playing for Beyer Leverkusen.

The entire thing apparently got the kick start when Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger in one of his famous impulses decided to het hold of a staggering amount of £12 million by making a withdraw of the same amount from his own pension fund and then spend it all for getting Swiss soccer star to sign the necessary papers and seal the deal.

According to the news story published in a German Daily, Arsenal is indeed keen on completing the whole deal before the end of the summer. For the 23 year old midfielder, it is definitely not the first time that he is encountering such offers. Even during the course of this season only Barnetta turned down a somewhat similar offer from Portsmouth. However according to the insiders, there is quite a fair chance that Arsenal is going to get what they are looking for.

Incidentally, Tranquillo Barnetta started off his soccer career in a major way when he signed up with Saint Gallen FC in Switzerland way back in 1996. However, in only a matter of a few weeks he found himself playing for the German club Beyer Leverkusen. During the same season he also played for Hannover for a brief ‘out on loan’ phase. He got selected for the under 17 Swiss national side in 2002 and the team also went on to win the UEFA European under 17 Football Championship.

He was finally absorbed in to the Swiss national side in 2004 and has also been a part of the 2006 World Cup squad. His goal against Togo helped his side to win the match in the group league stage. Tranquillo Barnetta was also among those who were shortlisted for the Best Young Player trophy given for the tournament.
