Gilbert Arenas gun charges another black eye to a long list of problems in the NBA
Written by James  |  Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:53  |  Category: NBA PDF Print E-mail
David Stern sent a message loud and clear to Gilbert Arenas and the other NBA players; the games are over. In what might become one of the longest suspensions in NBA history, rumors have it that Gilbert Arenas may miss this year and next year for his felony gun possession.

People realized with some cities having decreases in attendance that the NBA wanted a new image. Gone were the players running into the stands causing fights. Gone was the constant complaining on every call in a game. A strict dress code was enforced. And no guns were tolerated.

Players like Stephon Marbury and Bonzi Wells bragged about their weapons often. Bonzi Wells once was charged with several on and off the court problems, including hitting a referee and not being arrested for not leaving the scene of a fight at a night club. Stephon Marbury also feuded with the Knicks and coach Larry Brown, on and off the court. He also started doing 24/7 live video streams from his house, sometimes just laying in bed crying. Jayson Williams, the fine retired power forward of the New Jersey Nets, once was quoted as saying he was king of New Jersey. One night while drunk, he accidentally shot and killed his friend and limo drive at his house, then jumped in the pool, put the shotgun in his dead friends hand, and threatened everyone there that there would be hell to pay if they didnt' comply with a story of suicide. After years of trials, Williams finally got a short prison sentence. During his first trial, he was found not guilty when 2 of the women jurors said he was too handsome and charming to kill anyone.

Now we come to our friend Gilbert. Making jokes before meeting with police on not being worried. That must have lit a fire in David Stern. Gilbert didnt' realize that all 4 of these malcontents, are not in the NBA. Williams tried a come back but no one would sign him. Bonzi Wells played in Japan and went awol, but at 33 and with many skills left, an NBA won't even give him a try out. Marbury now is going to play in Japan because no one will touch him. And Arenas monster contract, is in the process of being voided, possibly causing him to lose 84 million dollars. The moral of the story? Don't mess with the "new" image of the NBA. Lebron, Brandon Roy, Dwight Howard and Dwayne Wade are the faces the NBA wants to head their PR push to fill arenas. The Marbury's and Wells, are no where to be found.
